In-service inspection and testing of your portable electrical equipment, done in place, room by room. RCD testing is included, failed leads are often repaired on the spot, and every result is published to your own asset register the same day.
Covers your first 10 items
AS/NZS 3760 is the Australian standard for in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment. It does not ask you to test everything every year. It asks for three things: a visual inspection of the item, lead and plug; an electrical test appropriate to the item's class; and a durable record that the test happened, by whom, and when the next one is due.
In practice most sites fail an audit not because equipment was unsafe, but because the paperwork could not be produced. A tag on a hoist proves nothing on its own if there is no register behind it showing test history, intervals and what is currently overdue. That is the gap this service is built to close.
Work is carried out under a Restricted Electrical Work Licence covering equipment up to 250VAC, which matters for a specific reason: it means faults found on the mains side — a cracked plug top, a damaged strain relief, a chafed lead — can be repaired and retested during the same visit, instead of being tagged out and left waiting for a second trade.
There is no single national interval, and the standard does not set one by room name. Table 2.4 of AS/NZS 3760:2022 keys the interval to how the item is used — whether its cord is flexed in normal use, whether it is open to abuse, and whether it sits in a hostile environment. That is why a hoist wheeled between rooms and a desktop PC that never moves sit at opposite ends of the same table.
These are the intervals applied on Ampcare jobs. The class for each item is assessed on site, then tracked per item in your portal so the due date follows the asset rather than the visit.
| Usage class | Interval | Typical items in aged care & SIL |
|---|---|---|
| Cord flexed, or open to abuse, or hostile environment | 12 months | Hoists, electric beds, power chairs, chargers, vacuums, kitchen appliances, extension leads, power boards |
| Commercial cleaning equipment | 6 months | Floor polishers, carpet extractors, industrial vacuums |
| Construction, demolition & workshop use | 3 months | Portable power tools, site leads, portable RCDs |
| Hire & loan equipment | Before each hire | Loan chairs, shower commodes, mobile hoists between users |
| Residential-type settings, static items | 2 years | Fixed appliances in supported accommodation and boarding-house-style settings |
| Not flexed, not open to abuse, not hostile | 5 years | Desktop PCs, monitors, printers and similar that never move in use |
A printable A4 summary of both tables — no email required. Useful on a maintenance noticeboard or in an audit folder.
RCDs are named in the 2022 title of the standard and carry their own schedule. The push-button check is a task for your own staff; the trip-time test needs an instrument and is what Ampcare performs — included in the per-item rates.
| Device | Push-button, by your staff | Trip-time test, by Ampcare |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed RCD at the board | 6 months | 12 months — or 2 years for static, low-risk residential settings |
| Portable RCD | 3 months | 12 months |
Item count confirmed before anything is charged, so the quote you get is the invoice you get. Rooms sequenced to stay out of the way of care routines.
Lead, plug, casing and strain relief checked by eye, then earth continuity, insulation resistance or leakage as the item class requires. RCDs tested at the board.
Damaged plugs, leads and strain reliefs are replaced and retested during the visit under the 250VAC licence. Anything beyond that is tagged out and quoted separately.
Durable tag on every item and the full result set published to your asset portal — pass, fail, retest date and certificates, ready to hand an auditor.
Every item tested is published to your own Ampcare Asset Portal — searchable by room, asset code, model and appliance class, with what is overdue and what falls due in the next 30 days up front. Certificates and CSV export on demand. No licence fee, no lock-in.
Watch the 53-second portal demoPriced per item, with a bulk rate for larger facility jobs. The item count is confirmed on the walk-through before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
AS/NZS 3760 sets it by how the item is used rather than by room. Anything whose cord is flexed in normal use or is open to abuse — hoists, beds, power chairs, chargers, kitchen appliances, extension leads — is 12 months. Commercial cleaning equipment is 6 months, portable tools in workshop use 3 months, and loan equipment is checked before each hire. Items that never move can extend to 5 years. The class for each item is assessed on site and tracked per item in your portal.
Yes. RCD push-button operation and trip-time verification are carried out alongside test and tag, and are included in the per-item rates at no extra charge. Results are recorded on your certificate of test for the visit rather than billed as an extra line.
An $85 call-out covers the first 10 items. Beyond that, standard jobs under 30 items are $4.50 per item, and jobs of 30 or more items in aged care and supported accommodation are $3.00 per item. The item count is confirmed on the walk-through before any work starts, so the quote is the invoice.
It is tagged out of service, isolated so it cannot be used, and recorded as a fail with the reason. Because Ampcare holds a Restricted Electrical Work Licence covering equipment up to 250VAC, many failures — damaged leads, plug tops, strain reliefs — are repaired and retested on the same visit rather than written off or left for another trade.
Testing is done in place and sequenced around care routines — rooms during activity times, kitchens and laundries outside service periods. Items are tested and returned to exactly where they were. Nothing is taken away.
Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay. The service is fully mobile, so testing happens at your facility, property or home — equipment never has to be moved or sent away.
Every result is published to your own Ampcare Asset Portal on the day it is tested. You get a live register with test history per asset, downloadable certificates and CSV export, at no licence fee.
Yes — that is the reason the two service lines exist together. Hoists, electric beds, power chairs, scooters and riser recliners can be serviced or repaired on the same visit as their electrical test, which usually means one call-out instead of two. See AT servicing.
Item count confirmed before work starts. Portal access included at no cost.
